Linux reunited

Luna aceasta a luat fiinta Linux Foundation:

http://www.linux-foundation.org

“The Linux Foundation is a nonprofit consortium dedicated to fostering the growth of Linux. Founded in 2007 by the merger of the Open Source Development Labs and the Free Standards Group, it sponsors the work of Linux creator Linus Torvalds and is supported by leading Linux and open source companies and developers from around the world. The Linux Foundation promotes, protects and standardizes Linux by providing unified resources and services needed for open source to successfully compete with closed platforms.”
The Linux Foundation

What is new on the horizon

—Microsoft—

Already old news, it seems Bill Gates is going to visit Romania and launch Vista, paying a visit also to the MS Centre for Technical Support which will serve clients in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
This is for good, for bad? I think is a good sign, it recognizes Romania like an important market (and still a cheap IT labor force). Of course, probably he is going to donate some software for some universities and so on. The government will love him.
And he will mark another victory on the map.

“This would be Gates’ first visit to Romania, ten years after Microsoft first opened a branch here in 2006. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer visited the country last year.
[…]
Microsoft Romania eyes to triple its business figure by 2010 after it reported a 29% boost of income in the fiscal year 2006 compared to the previous year, company data show.”

Good money in Gates pocket, isn’t it?

Check this article – I like his smile there :-D .

—Google—

News which I like more, is the one related to Google; it seems they decided to focus a little on Romania too and searching to hire a general advisor there. Beside this, they are looking for a PR agency who should promote Google brand in Romania.

It’s true,  Romanians loves Google. Who doesn’t? Because of that, we started to search if we can invite somebody from Google to speak at eLiberatica. We hope Zak will help this time too; hopefully we are going to be lucky.

—eLiberatica—

Related to eLiberatica, I’ll mention the most important news:

  • We released the full bilingual web site so everybody can chose Romanian or English language
  • We launched the enrolment section and now you can book tickets at the conference with a high discount (40% off till the end of February)
  • Right now, we are working to implement the online payment, so in a few days, the people interested can pay the ticket online despite where they are in the world
  • And last but not lest, a lot of people and organizations started to support and encourage us; “eLiberatica” is now returning more than 60000 results on Google, just check it ;) .

You can help the initiative too and enter in a pool to win one of the two free tickets at the conference.
Beside this, your website/blog logo will be displayed under Promoters & Media Partners section.
