Parties, digital identities and other stuff

sxipperLas week I was invited by Sxip, one my former employees, to attend a “pre-launch” party at their new headquarters located in Yaletown. First of all, I was very happy to meet my former colleagues there; I remembered the old times when I worked with one of the best teem in my career. On the other hand, for me Sxip was the first company here in Canada where I was exposed to Open Source concepts and technologies. Now, back to the party: it was presented their last creation named Sxipper. On short, Sxipper is an identity management tool which will do login and registration process easier and more secure by storing your contact information and passwords into pre-mapped forms and fields that support different level of encryption, making practically impossible to break into it. This little tool will cam like an add-on for Firefox and will have a free version and also a commercial version. More details where presented, but they asked us to avoid revealing more information until they will release it. If this sounds interesting for you, keep an eye on the sxipper.com, soon they will launch the website and the Sxipper tool. The party was fun and interesting; like usual Lori Pike and the rest of the team where perfect guests for everybody. We have beers, hot-dogs, appetizers and all the stuff, together. On top of this, I met new and interesting people there. I even presented to Dick – the company owner – our future ROSI event, eLiberatica ;) .

Vancouverul sub zapada

In Vancouver ninge foarte rar spre deosebire de restul Canadei. VancouverWinter07

Bilingual websites – the challenge and the solution

Drupal - Localizer Module by Roberto GerolaOne of the most challenging problems to handle for the future eLiberatica website was the bilingual issue. We had to find the best way for providing all the information there in both English and Romanian. Finally, I decided to use Drupal but I wasn’t satisfied with the internationalization modules provided. Fortunately and unexpectedly, I got the most help dealing with this problem from Roberto Gerola, an Italian IT entrepreneur, developer and Open Source enthusiast. Roberto helped not only implementing his new Localizer module but also he fixed a lot of other things on eLiberatica. And all of this without asking me a single service, only by good will and a strong desire to help spreading FLOSS ideals. Now, the website will have full bilingual syndications, taxonomy, latest news, news section and all facilities translated. We are expecting to launch it in a few weeks. For all of you planning to develop a bilingual website or portal, I strongly recommend to try Localizer with Drupal. Is going to save you a lot of work. Regarding Roberto, he is one of the few that I’m keeping under the section “special and very rare persons” that I know.
